Today we started our new comic book club it was awesome.
We also worked on our Alberta maps of Canada we marked 10 major cities and 3 land marks.
And we started a new light and shadow unit.

Wednesday January 8th

Today we worked on our zoo builds and did a great job at them. We measured the volume of them by finding the length, width, and perimeter of each enclosure. To practice solving for the volume of prisms we did a volume sort activity where we sorted prisms, dimensions and their volume. We were lucky too start our day with our last social thinking class where we came up with a class unthinkable working in groups. It was great to see each other share ideas and communicate in great ways. Our wolf called wander writing in close to being complete and we are very excited to get them into book format to be able to share them and read each others stories. We have been reading "The one and only Ivan" and we have been talking a lot about the setting and characters. Today we drew a picture of the setting inside Ivan's domain in the Big Top mall. Welcome to the New Year

We are back and excited! It is great to see everyone's smiling faces. We hope that everyone has had a great Christmas holiday and is excited about the new year ahead of us. Our blog will now be found here for the remainder of the year to comply with new CBE regulations. We were working on team building yesterday to begin the year and talked about how important it is to share our ideas in a healthy way. If we have ideas that are different than others that is okay and we can compromise, listen to others ideas and help each other work through their ideas to help them come true. In teams we shared ideas to best build a cup tower using only string and elastics, ask your child how it worked. They had a blast and worked together great! We are busy working on building our area, perimeter and volume zoo's. Building with blocks and recyclable materials. Maps and Catapults

Today we worked on our simple machine levers by creating catapults in the classroom. We were able to use popsicle sticks, elastics, erasers, rulers, stones and books to create first class, second class, and third class levers to see which would work best for a catapult and which would work best for different reasons. We remember what is in the middle of each lever class by creating a mnemonic as a class Five-thousand Little Edwin's to remember fulcrum, load and then effort. We completed our class novel study The One and Only Ivan and are excited to get to see Ivan's cousin on Thursday at the Calgary Zoo. We solved and created different multiplication math riddles using multiplication of 2-digit by 2-digit and are beginning to solve 3-digit by 2-digit equations.
