Pink, Garlic, Gorillas

Today we talked all about pink t-shirt day. We watched a short news clip about why pink t-shirt day is so important and what we can do to help. We each got to decorate and design a pink t-shirt that we would like to have made in the stores for next years pink t-shirt day.

We are working on and completing our iMovies with important information about why it is so important that we see the gorillas. We are making sure to write, speak and convey our information in a very persuasive and convincing way.

We did an activity today in math where we had to solve a large problem as a class using our knowledge so far this year about patterning, multiplication and now division. We used manipulatives, worked in groups and as a class to figure out the difficult problem. If you want to try to solve it get your kiddos to help you with it below.

Growing Garlic Problem

Ben is on the allotment with his Mum. They would like to grow some garlic and are deciding how to plant the garlic cloves.

Ben arranges the cloves into three rows and finds that he has one spare clove. How many cloves might he have had to start with?

Ben plants cloves of garlic in two rows and has one clove left over. So he tries again.
He plants cloves in three rows and has one left over. So he tries again.
He plants cloves in four rows and has one left over. So he tries again.
He plants cloves in five rows and has one left over. So he tries again.
He plants cloves in six rows and has one left over.
We know that he has fewer than 100 garlic cloves. How many did he have?
You could think about how many cloves he might have had if there were more than 100.
